The Texas Society for Music Theory will hold its 46th annual meeting on February 23-24, 2024, on the campus of University of Texas at Arlington, with Amy Hatch serving as local arrangements coordinator. Megan Lavengood, Associate Professor and Area Director of Music Theory at George Mason University, will deliver the keynote address. Stacey Davis, Tim Chenette, and Stan Kleppinger will lead a plenary pedagogy session on Aural Skills instruction.

The conference will be held in a hybrid in-person/online format. Presenters are asked to travel to Arlington. Those not presenting may participate in person or virtually. All paper sessions, including the keynote and pedagogy sessions, will be live streamed. Those wishing to participate online will need to have the latest version of Teams downloaded to their devices. Links will be provided prior to the conference.

Location:

The in-person meeting will be held at the campus the University of Texas at Arlington in Arlington, Texas. The Friday session will begin in the University Center, Carlisle Suite (3rd floor) and finish in the Fine Arts building. Refer to the UTA Campus Map for help navigating the UTA campus.

A TSMT luncheon will be held on Friday, February 23 and will feature a board of artisan sandwiches, salad/chips, and iced tea. The board includes a vegetarian option. The luncheon cost per person is $18 for regular registrants and $10 for students.

To participate in the luncheon, registration must be completed and paid by Friday, February 9, 2024.

There are dining locations on the first floor of the University Center including Subway, Chick-fil-a, Panda Express, and Rusty Taco.

Travel:

If traveling by air, the metroplex offers two airports: Dallas/Fort Worth International airport (DFW) is a 15-minute drive to campus and Dallas Love Field airport (DAL) is about a 45-minute drive. CONFERENCE HOTEL

A block of rooms has been reserved at the Comfort Suites Arlington - Entertainment District (2.4 miles from the UTA campus). The conference rate is $119/$139 for a king room (Thursday/Friday nights) and $129/$149 (Thursday/Friday nights) for a standard double room. There's a $10/night charge for an additional guest in a double room. The group block rates cover check in on Thursday, February 22 through Saturday, February 24. Guests must book both nights to receive the special conference block rate. The cutoff date for this special rate is January 25, 2024.

Parking:

Those attending the conference in person will be able to park in Faculty/Staff lots for $14 on Friday; however, attendees do not need to register for or pay for Saturday.

Here are the steps to register for parking on Friday:

Friday Parking: Lots 11, 12, or 38 are highly recommended for the conference on Friday for access to the University Center. Attendees are welcome to move their cars after concurrent sessions end at 4:30 prior to the keynote in the Fine Arts building.

Saturday Parking: For Saturday and Friday (if you plan on moving your car), we recommend the Trinity Lot (F6) or F7. F8 is typically reserved during the week, but is available on Saturday free of charge.

On campus: UTA has many chain locations such as Starbucks, Subway, Chick-fil-a, and Panda Express. For more options and hours, visit Maverick dining.
