Keynote speaker - Nicole Biamonte (McGill University)

The Texas Society for Music Theory will hold its 41st annual meeting at Texas State University in San Marcos, TX, with Rebecca Eaton serving as local arrangements coordinator. Nicole Biamonte, a former editor of the journal Music Theory Online, will deliver the keynote address. Her primary research area concerns the theory and analysis of popular music, with a focus on rhythmic, metric, and harmonic functions in rock music. Samantha Inman (Stephen F. Austin University) will present a plenary pedagogy session on incorporating wind literature into the music theory curriculum.

The Society invites the submission of proposals for posters, scholarly papers, panel discussions, or special sessions on any aspect of music theory or music theory-related interdisciplinary research.

Submission details:

Each submitter will be notified of the selection committee's decision in late December. The program will be announced in early January along with full registration and travel information. Abstracts of all papers and posters chosen for presentation will be published on the TSMT web site (http://texasmusictheory.org/). Student presenters (papers and posters) wishing to be considered for the TSMT Colvin Award for best student presentation must send a PDF of the complete paper or poster to cg34@txstate.edu on or before, February 1, 2019.
